Michigan Memories of the 70s and 80s

Drinks  Food  Sport Teams  Stores and Attractions  Music and Media  Other Manufacturers

Welcome to the Michigan Memories section of EarlyXer.com.  Michigan Memories is all about Michigan based products during the 70's and 80's (with some overflow into the 60's and 90's).  We have tried to put together a very unique collection of memories.  Our hope is that you see things that you have not even thought about for years, but once you see them you are flooded with great memories.

We here at EarlyXer.com thought that this would be kind of a gift to the people of the Great Lakes state - who could probably use some feel-good time more than just about anyone.  The intent is not just to reminisce and then feel sad that the "good old days" are gone.  The intent is to get people to remember that Michigan has been a great state for so long because of the impact that it has made beyond it's borders. We hope that you find optimism as you spend time on this site - optimism that the state will once again be creating things that the rest of the country just can't live without.  Not to say that Michigan is not doing that at all today, but let's face it, things could be better.

You will notice that there are no cars in  this section.  Our focus was to highlight all of the other great products of the state.  When most people think of Michigan, they think of cars.  Well, there has been an awful lot more than cars going on.

OK, OK.  If you have to have your car fix, check out this link to our car section.

Lastly, this special salute to Michigan was made possible through the generosity of many people - too many to list here.  To everyone that donated material and/or time, THANK YOU!

I remember when the Piston's used to have "concerts" after their games in the silverdome to get people to come to a game.

Tim - it might not be a bad idea for the Pistons to try that now at the Palace!

Remember Kmart used to be the only "discount" store. We would go in and when they announced a blue light special everyone would go running to the blue light. Bad dreams of old ladies running me down for a 5 cent roll of paper towel!

Steve, I vividly remember going to Kmart and the blue lights!! They also had a grill where I would get an order of fries and a coke for only 99 cents.

Tracy, we were able to walk to the Kmart by our house. Would make the weekly trip to the grill also!

Past Sports HerosMichigan has had some great sports figures over the years.  One of my favorites is still Kurt Gibson - his "do anything to win" mentality was just fun to watch.reply|subscribe to post

RE:Past Sports HerosI would have to say that Barry Sanders is still my favorite.  I wasn't thrilled with how early he retired, but it was great having a star of that level playing in Detroit.reply|subscribe to post
