Michigan Produced Foods During the 70s and 80s

Better Made Potato Chips: Started in Detroit in 1930, Better Made still uses Michigan-grown potatoes for 8 months of the year in it's factory on Gratiot. 

Little Caesar's Pizza:  Started in Garden City, Michigan, they once filled an order for 13,386 pizzas.  Pizza Pizza!

Domino's Pizza:  Tom Monaghan's brother traded his early share of the company for a used VW Beetle.

Kellogg's:  Created in Battle Creek as an off-shoot of the work done at the Battle Creek Sanitarium.

Sanders: Frederick Sanders invented the ice cream soda.  At their height, there were 145 stored around Detroit in 1965.

Kar's Nuts:  The nuts were originally roasted in a home kitchen and then sold across the street in Tiger Stadium.

Kowalski: In 1986, they set a record with a kielbasa that was 32 feet long and weighed 2,208 pounds.

Krun-Chee Potato Chips:

New Era Potato Chips: Eventually bought by Frito-Lay.

Red Pelican Mustard: The Belgian founder intended to come to America on the Titanic, but the tickets sold out too quickly.  Thankfully, he made it to Detroit to create his hot mustard like the mustard he knew from home.

Vlasic Pickles: The pickles expanded from a Detroit creamery operation and eventually built a plant in Imlay City, Michigan.

Honey Baked Ham: The business was born after the founder could not find a market for his invention that carved a ham in one continuous sprial slice.

Hygrade Food Products: Moved to Detroit in 1947 - in 1957, they won a competition for the best dog to serve at Tiger's games - Ball Park Franks.
